As New York City develops, mom-and-pop shops are rapidly disappearing - replaced by homogenized signage and polished graphics. This series memorializes the ubiquitous bodega - a convenience store that also serves as a community meeting place - and explores their unique visual personalities.

I lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn from 1997-2003, then kept a studio there from 2005-2007. During that time, the neighborhood was rezoned and the entire landscape began to change very rapidly. Soon after, I moved to Bedford Stuyvesant and watched as eminent domain forced a major change in downtown Brooklyn. This series of drawings explore the initial phase of transformation in both neighborhoods.

An illustrated chart of edible perennials, created for Sophia Warsh during her residency at the 2017 Agrikultura Triennal, Sweden. A field botanist and artist, Sophia led identification excursions and mapping projects of some of her fellow residents' installations. Cluster was a garden project by Mary Mattingly, created to highlight the edible perennial plants found on the site and in the region.

I illustrated this chart as a contribution to Sophia's overall projects at Agrikultura.

An avid composter and one-time restaurateur, I didn’t have to think twice when asked if I’d like to create the visual assets for a Zero Waste Food conference hosted by the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) and The New School.

From the start, the organizers were keen on something hand-drawn, unconventional, and urban-focused.

The resulting imagery was a series of illustrations that could be combined and reconfigured to suit the format: from a horizontal web banner to a vertical 7-foot poster and everything in between. The components also needed to be malleable enough to be used by other in-house and student designers at both schools.

Illustrations for a book celebrating seasonal produce. Each season highlights fruits and vegetables available at farmer's markets on the east coast through illustrations, personal notes, and simple recipes.

As a Center for Urban Pedagogy Making Policy Public (MPP) fellow, I was paired with WEACT for Environmental Justice to create a fold-out poster to help educate people about their rights as renters when it comes to toxic hazards in the home. The project was a year-long collaboration between myself, CUP, and WEACT.

Towers Falling is a middle grade novel about 9/11, written by award-winning author Jewell Parker Rhodes. I was commissioned to illustrate both the front and back cover by Little, Brown and Company after their discovery of the Bodega Portraits series.

The good people at Representation Co. in NYC asked me to illustrate their 2017 holiday card. The directives were: "Bodega, something New-Yorky, our names, and maybe impeach Trump or something..."

Commissioned mural illustration for Calexico, a Cal-Mex restaurant. This was installed in their Greenpoint, Brooklyn location. Incidentally, the file was so large it almost broke my computer.
